POLICY

Standing Orders

1. Policy

Standing Orders is a reference book of the current operational policies and procedures published in In Orders.

Standing Orders is complied from In Orders. Each item of information has a reference to the In Orders in which it was published.

To ensure that staff have access to current information on legislative and occupational health and safety requirements, policies and procedures, Standing Orders is updated and published on the Intranet as soon as possible after the In Orders are issued each fortnight.

2. Standing Orders online

Standing Orders is published in electronic form on Station Portal on the Intranet.

3. Standing Orders in hard copy

Standing Orders is no longer published in hard copy format. The last hard copy edition was 2005, which is rescinded and should be discarded.

4. Version control

The current version of Standing Orders is the one posted on Station Portal on the Intranet. The version number and the date of publication are give on the title page and in the footer of each page.

To ensure that you are aware of current policies and procedures, you should always use the current version of Standing Orders.

If you have printed or downloaded a copy of Standing Orders, check that you have the current version by comparing the version number and date with those of the document on Station Portal.

PROCEDURE

Withdrawal from service of 3M Alcohol Type Concentrate Foam

All drums of Alcohol Type Concentrate (ATC) Foam are to be immediately withdrawn from all appliances and foam trailers.

A pink tag is to be marked “DO NOT USE” and attached to ALL drums.

An entry is to be made in the Occurrence Book of the number of drums removed from service.

They are to be removed to a safe location within the station’s boundaries.

A managed program for collection has been devised, and all drums of ATC Foam will be collected from stations in the near future.

MSA Orion Gas Detector Use Record

1. Purpose

An MSA Orion Gas Detector Use Record has been created for use by staff using the gas detectors. The Detector Use Record:

· records essential information about incidents at which the detectors are used

· provides a guide for users on setup procedure, safe working methods, detection strategies and exposure standards, and

· ensures that consistent information is available for incident management.

The information recorded on the form includes:

Challenge Test results and helpful contact phone numbers are also included.

4. Downloading the form

The MSA Orion Gas Detector Use Record is available in the filing cabinet on Station Portal.

Station Commanders must ensure that the form is downloaded from Station Portal and that copies are made and placed in the Orion Gas Detector case.

5. Using the form

MSA Orion Gas Detectors and Detector Use Records are to be used as directed by the Station Commander or Incident Controller.

At incidents, the detector user must use the form:

· to record all appropriate information, and

· as a guide for operating procedures.

The form can be used by Station Commanders/Incident Controllers for decision making.

The information on the form may also be used to complete the AIRS report.

The form should be filed on the firefighter’s personal file at the station for use as contemporaneous notes if required.

Selection criteria: Knowledge, experience and understanding of emergency services operations and culture. Extensive clinical experience in crisis intervention and counselling. Extensive experience in program management, including financial, resourcing and contract management. Extensive experience in crisis management and application of ICISF methodologies. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including teambuilding, and consultation and negotiation of complex or sensitive issues. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Considerable experience in the application of principles and practices of human resource management. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent training or experience. Competency in the use of computer software, including email, word processing, database, spreadsheet, graphics and the internet. Current driver’s licence. Common selection criteria also apply.
