Appointed to Engine Keeper’s position
The Hon Morris Iemma MP, Premier
of NSW, has announced that a Medallion will be awarded to all Volunteers and
Agency personnel who were involved in assisting residents of the Hunter and
Central Coast areas during the storm emergency response in June 2007.
The Medal comprises of a boxed
Medallion which will be inscribed with the recipient’s name and will recognise
involvement in a voluntary or paid capacity during the storm emergency period 8
June 2007 to 15 June 2007.
Nomination of
NSWFB personnel will be co-ordinated through the Professional Standards and
Conduct Unit.
All NSWFB
personnel involved in the storm emergency in the Hunter and Central Coast areas
may apply for the award of the Medal.
Eligible
personnel must submit a written report to their Zone Commander/Manager
detailing the following:
· service/payroll
number
· name in full
· rank/grade
· time and date
deployed, and
· task force or role in
the storm emergency response.
Reports must be forwarded to your
Zone Commander/Manager by Friday, 24 August 2007.
Zone Commanders/Managers will
collate and forward a list of their personnel to the Honours and Awards Clerk,
Professional Standards and Conduct Unit.
Nominations close on 31 August
2007. Nominations will not be accepted
after that date.
It is anticipated that the NSWFB
will receive the Medals during October 2007.
The Professional Standards and Conduct Unit will forward the Medals by
certified post after they have been received from the NSW Government Office of
Protocol.
Note: The NSW State Medal is a boxed Medallion and
is not worn by recipients.

In Orders 2005/17, Changes to
training and assessment program for Recruit to Qualified Firefighter, advised
of the progression from Firefighter Level 1 to Level 2 and from Level 2 to Qualified
Firefighter.
The following clarifies the
assessment schedule for this program.
Firefighters who have completed
all the units of competency and NSWFB topics required for promotion to Level 2
may apply to undertake assessment for the following NSWFB Qualified Firefighter
topics while still a Firefighter Level 1:
· Ventilation
· Salvage
and Overhaul
The following units of competency
and NSWFB topics can only be assessed after promotion to Firefighter Level 2:
· Fire
suppression 2
· Suppress
wildfire
· Foster
a positive organisational image in the community.
Firefighters should first consult
with their Workplace Assessor to ensure they are ready for assessment.

Department of Premier and Cabinet
Circular 2007-37
advises that certain allowances under the Crown Employees (Public Service
Conditions of Employment) Reviewed Award 2006 have been have been reviewed
and adjusted, effective from 1 July 2007.
Pursuant to subclause 10.4.2.3 of
the Crown Employees (NSW Fire Brigades Firefighting Staff) Award 2005 the
new allowance rates have been flowed on to Permanent Firefighters.
Additionally, pursuant to
subclause 8.4.1.3 of the Crown Employees (NSW Fire Brigades Retained
Firefighting Staff) Award 2005 the new allowance rates have also been
flowed onto Retained Firefighters.
The new
rates are available on the Intranet on the Awards
and Agreements page under Human Resources.

Motor Mechanic – Fire Vehicle
Repairer
Note: Temporary positions
are offered in terms of section 27 of the Public Sector Employment and
Management Act 2002 for up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency.
Position No: 916 Multiple
positions available – permanent and temporary full time. Logistics Support Directorate,
Greenacre. Trade Award – Wage Range:
$875.70 - $934.50 per week gross in addition to employer’s contribution to
superannuation and leave loading.
This position attracts a tool
allowance of $24.20 per week in addition to the Fire Equipment Allowance
following 12 months of service.
Duties: Responsible for the maintenance and repair
of all vehicles and appliances associated with the operation of the NSW Fire
Brigades Fleet.
Selection criteria: A TAFE
Certificate or an equivalent certified trades course as a Motor/Diesel Mechanic
(MVRIC – licensed). Experience in the
repair and maintenance of heavy vehicles and plant (alternative experience with
light vehicles will also be considered).
Willingness to undertake additional training including qualifying for a
HR/MR drivers license within 12 months.
Capacity to work in accordance with a roster system, requiring shift
work, overtime, on-call work and some travel within the State for up to a week
at a time. Ability to be trained in
basic computer operations/data entry.
